Spun out of the Auckland Bioengineering Institute at the University of Auckland, where a team of researchers, clinicians, and engineers set out to rethink care for people living with Hydrocephalus. We've developed the Kitea system. It's precise engineering, built by a small team high performing team. 
 

Now based at Future House in Parnell, a curated community of start-ups building world-class companies from the lab bench to the world. Our summer internships offer hands-on experience, helping you build professional skills, industry knowledge, and meaningful connections.

  • Clinical Data Science Intern 

  • Medical Device Test Development Intern 

  • Quality & Regulatory Intern 

  • Manufacturing Systems Intern

The opportunity

  • 10-week paid summer internship 

  • Located in Auckland Central, Future House  

  • Application deadline 10 September 2026 

  • Start date: August-November 2026 

 

To be eligible, the student must 

  • Be currently studying at, or have recently completed study at, a New Zealand tertiary education institution 

  • Be studying at NZQA Level 6-10, or if you have completed your studies, your final semester must have ended within the previous 12 months 

  • Be studying science, engineering, technology, mathematics, statistics, biomedical engineering, data science, health technology, design, business, or a related discipline 

  • Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand

Clinical Data Science Intern 

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse real-world clinical data collected from patients using the Kitea System 

  • Develop and optimise data analysis pipelines 

  • Create data visualisations and dashboards 

  • Support development of models used to assess data quality and generate insights 

  • Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Data Science 

  • Statistics 

  • Computer Science 

  • Related analytical discipline

Medical Device Test Development Intern 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Design and development of manufacturing test systems for high precision measurement 

  • Assist with mechanical and electrical system development 

  • Create software development for automated testing equipment 

  • Participate in system integration, verification, and validation activities 

  • Work alongside engineering and manufacturing teams developing implantable medical devices 
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Mechatronics Engineering 

  • Mechanical Engineering 

  • Electrical Engineering 

  • Biomedical Engineering 

  • Related discipline 

     

Manufacturing Systems Intern 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support development and optimisation of manufacturing resource planning systems 

  • Assist with traceability of materials, components, and equipment 

  • Conduct gap analysis and support process improvements 

  • Help ensure manufacturing systems support quality and regulatory requirements 

  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and engineering teams
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Manufacturing Engineering 

  • Industrial Engineering 

  • Mechatronics Engineering 

  • Biomedical Engineering 

  • Related discipline 

     

Quality & Regulatory Intern 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support Quality Management System (QMS) activities 

  • Participate in process improvement and quality initiatives 

  • Assist with manufacturing process development and documentation 

  • Support risk management, document control, and compliance activities 

  • Gain experience in the development of regulated medical devices 
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Biomedical Engineering 

  • Quality Systems 

  • Health Technology 

  • Science
